ADVOCACY FOR BUDGET INCREASE IN  HEALTH SECTORS.

Elections have come and gone and the president and other political leaders elected will soon be sworn into office.

This is the right time as advocates; we begin to advocate for a budget increase in the health sectors. Over the years health sectors have not been adequately funded, which is as a result of the proportion they get in the budget.

It is imperative for us as advocates to occupy the space of the new and young leaders elected to advocate for a scale up in health budget in order reawaken the “Abuja declaration “

Instead of a budget increase for the health sector, what we have experienced is a decrease for over four years from 6% to 3.9%. This is one of the reasons people living with HIV (PLWHIV) and other interminable illness are not accessing adequate health care services.

The infant mortality rate, and adolescent & young person’s HIV mortality prevalence in the country, as a result of new infection, lack of SRHR awareness and poor access to health care services is an indicator for us to advocate for adequate funding of the health sectors for quality health care services.
